How to cut out fondant shapes and create them in 3-D:
- Select a cookie cutter and a fondant mold that matches; for example, if you want to make flowers, choose a flower-shaped cookie cutter that will cut out a flower that is slightly smaller than the flower mold in which you are putting it.
- Dust your work surface with cornstarch, and evenly roll out your fondant to roughly 1/16”.
- Using your cookie cutter, cut out your shape. (Cut out as many shapes as you can with the dough you have rolled.)
- Now, take your 3-D mold and brush a bit of cornstarch on each half of the mold. Set your cut-out in the in concave area of the mold.
- With the other half of the mold, press down on your cut-out to create your 3-D shape.
- If you choose, you can add other pieces to your 3-D shape by brushing a bit of water on it and then sticking on the piece (such as a candy pearl).
Most of all, have fun!
