An Award Winning Wedding Cake From Cake and Bake

One of Cake and Bake’s very talented cake designers, Danika Pulvermacher, has been perfecting her craft as a cake maker since 2004, and her experience shows. She got her start in Kettering, Ohio, and for several years now, has been creating beautiful cakes for weddings and special occasions of all kinds at Cake and Bake, neatly nestled in Germantown, WI.

She was recently awarded first place in the professional fondant category at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo 2013 Art of the Cake Competition, held at the Delta Center in Milwaukee. The design for the award winning cake was inspired by the Celtic Tree of Life, an image that Danika said came to her late at night, as many of her great ideas do. “I never thought I would get to do it,” She commented enthusiastically.

Danika was asked what qualities and standards she would look for in a cake if she were a judge, to which she thoughtfully responded, “An overall, cohesive design that would actually appeal to a bride. In addition to attributes such as design excellence and execution, I would look for a cake that is actually marketable.”

And the secret to creating perfect fondant?

“Malleability and elasticity,” she says. “At Cake and Bake, we use Satin Ice. A lot of professionals use it. As far as execution goes, it’s really just practice.”

Her plans for future rockstar cakes:

“A million cakes are on the back burner. I love to create themes based on a flavor or slice from the wedding, itself, such as China pattern, or a piece of lace from the dress—and just go with it. My best advice to people is to try to let professionals do their jobs in the manner in which they work best.”

First Communion and Confirmation Cakes and Cupcakes

April and May are months of renewal, and also a time to rejoice. Spring brings very special and momentous occasions for many Christians, such as Catholics and Lutherans—first communion and confirmation. Throughout the years, Cake and Bake has helped in the celebration by providing beautifully detailed and outstanding first communion and confirmation cakes and cupcakes. It takes a special touch to create and decorate these cakes; understanding that they need to convey a precious message of joy and peace, and are to be decorated accordingly.

That said, the cakes can be made from all kinds of flavors from vanilla to chocolate or a marbled combination of the two—or any flavor that you like. “Cookies and Cream” is another popular choice, and for those who prefer gluten-free cakes, Cake and Bake offers delicious options as well.

Delicate flowers and crosses are common themes as well as doves, rainbows and images of spring. Often, particular biblical verses are assigned by the pastor (depending on your denomination), which can then be incorporated into the cake’s design.
Cake and Bake cake decorators are experienced and always able to help with ideas. Stop in or call us any time. We’re so glad to be included in your special event!
