The Gingerbread House Building Tradition
For the Bies family, this is year four of making gingerbread houses at the annual Cake and Bake Gingerbread House Event. The four children; Lauren (age 5 1/2), Megan (age 8), Braden (age 10), and Katie (age 12) all love the opportunity to do something fun and creative as well as nibble on sweet treats throughout the project. Since there are four children, they get two houses, and each child pairs up with another sibling.
The teams are different from year to year, and Katie explained that they always try to do something new with the houses, whether it's a pattern on the roof, a unique walkway, or window dressing. They usually save their homes for decoration, but it sounded as though sometimes they do get nibbled on, too. That's understandable. Their mom Michaela and dad Brian love that they can bring the children for the afternoon, and all the pieces and supplies are there and ready to go, not to mention that they don't have to clean up afterward. The entire family loves the event so much that despite the fact that they now live in Pewaukee, they still make the trip to Germantown once a year to build gingerbread houses together. What a lovely tradition.
